Yes, the efficacy of eXciteOSA has been proven in multiple clinical studies. The product is a registered medical device which can be prescribed by sleep physicians. In clinical trials :

• 78% of sleep apnoea patients achieved a reduction in AHI
• 90% of patients reported a reduction in snoring time
• 89% of bed partners reported a reduction in their partner’s snoring

No serious side effects have been reported in clinical trials. ​

For those who experienced them, side effects reported were all minor (for example tongue tingling, drooling, tight jaw). ​
eXciteOSA works by promoting endurance of tongue muscles via neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES). NMES is a familiar and well-established technique in sports medicine. 

If you are not feeling the benefits of the eXciteOSA therapy, you may return the device to us for a refund. You must start using the device within 1 x calendar week of buying eXciteOSA. For optimal results, you should use it every day for 6 weeks. However, we know that we are all only human and people forget things – so we ask that you use it for a total of 6 weeks (a total of 42 days) within an 8-week period (56 days). A session is equivalent to 20 minutes. In addition, it is recommended that you increase the therapy intensity gradually over the treatment period to ensure that you give the treatment every chance of being effective. Please note that once the initial therapy is finished and to maintain the treatment you need to use the device at least twice a week forever.

eXCiteOSA works by delivering gentle pulses to the tongue muscle to tone it. During therapy you may experience a tingling sensation in your tongue, but it should not hurt. The therapy has 15 levels of intensity, you choose the level you are comfortable with and build it up as you progress with your therapy. 

The device is worn during the day while awake. Each therapy session lasts 20 minutes.  It is not worn at night. ​

The device can be used at any point during the day. We recommend using the device during a time of day that will allow you to build a steady habit out of your therapy. 

eXCiteOSA is a medical device to treat mild obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) and snoring. Clinical studies on the product were limited to patients with a BMI (Body Mass Index) under 35. eXciteOSA is not indicated if: ​

• you are pregnant or maybe pregnant, ​
• you have a pacemaker or implanted electrodes, ​
• you have obstructive sleep apnoea with AHI greater than 15​
• you are wearing dental braces or dental jewellery, ​
• you are suffering from mouth ulceration or recent dental work, ​
• you are less than 18 years old. 

eXciteOSA is not currently reimbursed by insurance in the United Kingdom and Ireland.

The exact timeframe for experiencing benefit is different for everyone. Results will depend on how well you stick to therapy. The recommended initial therapy program is 20-minute daily sessions for 6 weeks. ​

There are two phases to the therapy. Phase 1 lasts 6 weeks and you need to use the device for 20 minutes daily to reduce snoring and improve sleep quality. Phase 2 is the maintenance phase during which you would keep using the device at least a couple of times a week for 20 minutes to maintain the hard-earned benefits. It is like going to the gym: you need to exercise your muscles to improve performance and then keep going, albeit less intensely, to maintain your fitness. 

Yes, the mouthpiece needs to be replaced every 90 days to comply with regulations. Beyond this period, the safety and functional performance of the mouthpiece is not guaranteed, as contact with saliva will trigger progressive electrode degradation. The mouthpiece costs £70+VAT, so an average ongoing cost of about £23.33+VAT per month.
